[RobertOrf]

Please don't hate me.

War Storm Series Rules 2.1 Proofread #4:

3.3:  Replace “leaders” with “officers” in line 4 of paragraph 1.  In the name of consistency.

6.4.1:  Can an assaulting armor platoon(s) fire on the defending hex (after moving into the adjacent hex) as part of tactical movement before assaulting into the target hex?

7.5:  Replace “leaders” with “officers” in line 6 of paragraph 1.

12.2:  Replace “effect” with “effects” in line 7 of paragraph 1.

14.5:  Replace “Detail” with “Detailed” in the last line of 14.5.

14.6:  In regard to the Assault Table on page 30:
Replace:  “Motorized Dismounted (without FF)” with “Dismounted Motorized/Mechanized” in the Attacker row.

Delete “/NAFV” in the first footnote (*) at the bottom of the chart.  According to rule 17.2, NAFVs cannot assault.

15:  Replace “into its lines” with “towards a friendly map edge” in line 4 of the paragraph above the illustration in the left-hand column of page 32.

15:  Replace “Hand-to-Hand Chart” with “Close Assault Chart” in line 2 of step 2 in the right-hand column of the example on page 32.

SECTION 4:

17.1:  Add “a” between “with” and “‘flame-throwing” in line 1.

17.2:  Replace “AP Fire” with “a FF” in line 2.

18:  Replace “Vehicles” with “Vehicle” in line 1.

18.1:  Replace “platoons” with “platoon” in line 2.

18.2:  Replace “ones” with “movement” in line 1 of paragraph 1.

18.2:  Replace “effect” with “effects” in line 2 of paragraph 1.

18.2:  Replace “Special” with “The special” in line 2 of paragraph 1.

18.2:  Replace “though they move” with “when moving” in line 2 of paragraph 2 (at the top of the right-hand column on page 34).

18.3:  Add “the” between “follow” and “general” in line 1 of paragraph 2.

18.3 Example:  Add “the” between “only” and “infantry” in line 3 of the example.

18.3 Example:  Replace “as a heavy AFV is not affected by 75mm ART fire.” with “since the heavy AFV will not suffer a step loss because the 75mm ART does not meet the caliber requirements.” in line 3/4 of the example.

18.3:  Replace “occurs for” with “applies to” in line 2 of the last paragraph.

18.3.1 Example:  Replace “are” with “is” in the last line of the example.

18.3.2:  Replace the first sentence:

“When an AT attack is performed and after resolving the attack, if a hit is produced on an AFV the Penetration Chart must be checked, cross-referencing the type of AT gun which opened fire with the distance to the target.”

with

“If an AT attack results in a hit, the Penetration Chart must be checked to determine if the hit results in a step loss.  Cross reference the type of AT gun with the distance to the target.”

18.3.2:  Replace “AFVs” with “an AFV” in line 1 of paragraph 2.

18.3.2:  Replace “for each hit received roll 1d6.” with “roll 1D6 for each hit achieved.” in line 2 of paragraph 2.

18.3.2:  Replace “dice” with “die” in line 3 of paragraph 3 (on page 35).

18.3.2:  Add “roll of” between “a” and “1” in line 3 of paragraph 3.

18.3.2:  Replace “dice” with “die” in line 5 of paragraph 3.

18.3.2:  Replace “fire groups” with “a fire group” in the penultimate line of the last paragraph.

18.4:  Replace “AFV counter” with “AFV platoon” in line 2.

18.4:  Add “immediately” between “transferred” and “to” in line 6.

18.4:  Replace:  “If the platoon is eliminated and the leader survives (see hits on officers, chapter 7.4.3), the officer counter must be transferred to a platoon of the same company located in the same hex. If there is no option available, he must move using his on-foot MP to reach another friendly platoon in the same company.”

with

“If the platoon is eliminated and the officer survives (see hits on officers, chapter 7.4.3), the officer counter is immediately assigned to a platoon of the same company located in the same hex. If there is no platoon available, the officer counter remains in the hex and must move on foot during its next activation until it reaches another friendly platoon of the same company.  At that point the officer is automatically assigned to the new platoon.” in the first paragraph.

19:  Replace “Armor support occurs between assaulting infantry, MG, or motorized/mechanized mounted cavalry platoons (the same as for HtH) together with at least one AFV (or mounted mechanized platoon) and assaulted infantry, cavalry, or heavy weapon units (including motorized ones that are immediately dismounted).”

with

“An armor support assault occurs when platoons of infantry, MG (including dismounted motorized and mechanized infantry/MG platoons), or mounted cavalry (that is, the same platoons that may initiate HtH combat), along with at least one AFV platoon (or mounted mechanized platoon) conduct an assault against infantry, cavalry, heavy weapons, or motorized platoons (that must dismount when the assaulting platoons enter their hex).” in the first paragraph.

19:  Delete the third paragraph:

“To make an assault with Armor Support the infantry or MG and AFV platoons must begin their movement in the same hex. If the attacking platoons belong to different companies, they have to attempt to coordinate in order to execute the assault with Armor Support.”  These two sentences are redundant.  They essentially repeat what is stated a few lines later in chapter 19 Step 1 of the rulebook.

19 Step1:  Replace “platoon” with “platoon(s) in line 1.

19 Step 1:  Delete “or mechanized unit” from line 1.  This is redundant?  Mounted mechanized units are AFVs.

19 Step 1:  Delete “adjacent to the target hex of the assault,” from line 2.

19 Step1:  Replace “infantry or MG platoons.” with “troops it is supporting.” in line 3.

19 Step 2:  Replace step #2 with:

“The defender may decide to perform DF at this point or wait for the opponent to enter his hex.

If available to his platoons, the defender may direct AT fire against the assaulting AFV(s) and AP fire against the assaulting foot platoon(s). If a unit has both types, he must choose which to use.”

19 Step 4:  Delete “In the case that infantry platoon, if” with “If” in line 1.

19 Step 4:  Replace “armored assaulting” with “assaulting armored” in line 3.

19 Step 4:  Replace “At this point, the assaulting player, decides to continue with the assault or suspend it, if suspended must mark the platoons as “Finished” where they are at the same time when it has been eliminated or forced to withdraw.”

with

“At this point, the assaulting player must decide to continue with the assault or suspend it.  If an assault is suspended or aborted, the platoons must be marked as “Finished.”  If the finished platoons are in the defender’s hex when the assault is suspended or aborted, the assaulting platoons must withdraw into an adjacent hex through the hex side they originally crossed to enter the assaulted hex or through either hex side adjacent to it.”

19 Step 5:  Replace “Same procedure, just adding the assault factor from the armored platoon.”

with “Armor support follows the same assault resolution procedure as HtH combat but with the addition of the assault factor of the armor platoon(s).”

19 What happens if the assaulted hex contains ONE armored platoon (if it contains more, an armored-supported assault cannot be performed)?:

Replace “their” with “the defending” in line 1 of paragraph 1.

The second paragraph makes reference to the defending armor platoon being eliminated prior to the assault.  How can the defending armor platoon be eliminated during the run up to the assault but prior to the assault resolution?

Delete “and neither is the defender,” from line 1 of paragraph 2.
Delete the last sentence from paragraph 2.

Replace “defender” with “defending” in line 1 of paragraph 3.

Delete “; in both cases” from line 2 of paragraph 3.

Add “defending” between “the” and “armored” in line 2 of paragraph 3.

Replace “into its lines” with “towards a friendly map edge” in line 2/3 of paragraph 3.

19 Example:  Delete “(including the -1 modifier)” from line 5 of paragraph 2 of the example on page 35.

19 Example:  Replace “republicans” with “Republican” twice in lines 2 and 3 of paragraph 1 in the left-hand column of page 36.

19 Example:  Replace “republicans” with “Republican” in line 1 of paragraph 2 in the left-hand column of page 36.

19 Example:  Replace “an” with “a” in line 2 of paragraph 2 in the left-hand column of page 36.

19 Example:  Replace “A die is” with “2D6 are” in line 3 of paragraph 2 in the left-hand column of page 36.

19 Example:  Replace “the dice are rolled and the result is a 8” with “the dice roll results in an 8” in line 7 of paragraph 2 in the left-hand column of page 36.

19 Example:  Replace “Hand-to-Hand Combat Chart” with “Close Assault Chart” in line 3 of the last paragraph in the example on page 36.

20:  Replace “machine guns, or cavalry platoons (that is, the same types of platoons that can initiate a HtH assault)” with “MG, or dismounted cavalry/motorized/mechanized” <wbr />in line 1/2 of paragraph 1.

20 Step 2:  Replace “FF AP” with “AP FF” in line 1.

20:  Replace “Hand-to-Hand Combat Chart” with “Close Assault Chart” in the first line on page 37.

20:  Replace “crosses” with “cross references” in line 4 of the left-hand column at the top of page 37.

20 Example:  Replace “leader” with “officer” in line 6 of the example on page 37.  In the name of consistency.

20 Example:  Replace “3 of each platoon but since they do not have reaction markers their FF is halved, a platoon with FF of 3 should divide it into 2, will have an FF of 2 when rounding up 1.5”

with

“both platoons have an AP FF of 3 but each is halved for not being marked for reaction and rounded up individually” in lines 7-9 of the example on page 37.

20 Example: Replace “nationalist of” with “Nationalist AFV platoons is” in line. 11 of the example on page 37.

20 Example:  Replace “(Assault charts), the” with “.  The” in line 11 of the example on page 37.

20 Example:  Replace “in the Odds Chart, the attacker’s value (8) by the defender’s value (6).” with “the attacker’s value (8) with the defender’s value (6) on the Odds Chart.” in the last line of the example on page 37.

21:  Rule 21 states that AFVs may assault “mechanized units, transports, NAFV, or motorized ones” (in line 3 of paragraph 1).  However, the Armored Assault column on the assault chart on page 30 does not include transports, mechanized units, or NAFV.  Which is correct?

21 Step 2:  Replace “has performed an action during its impulse/turn and is marked as completed,” with “is marked as “Finished”” in lines 2/3.

21 Step 2:  Replace “always” with “still” in line 4.

22 Step 2:  Replace “will occur ” with “may occur even” in line 4.

21 Step 2:  Replace “impulse/turn” with “activation” in line 5.

21 Step 2:  Replace “FF AT” with “AT FF” in line 7.

21 Step 2:  Replace “make” with “conduct” in line 7.

21 Step 2:  Delete “complete the pre-assault check and” from the last line.  An Armor Assault does not require a pre-assault check.

21 Step 4:  Replace “perform” with “resolve” in line 4.

21 Step 4:  Add a period to the end of line 4.  Capitalize “once” in line 5.

21 Step 5. Assault resolution:  Replace “HtH chart” with “Close Assault Chart” in line 3.

21 Step 5:  Replace “crosses” with “cross references” in line 6.

21 Step 5:  Replace “-1 to 1D6” with “a -1 modifier to the 1D6 roll” in line 8.  Also, this modifier is not listed on the Assault Modifiers chart.

21 What happens if the Assaulted hex contains ONE (if it contains more, an armored assault cannot be performed) armored platoon?

Replace “Surviving DF assaulting platoons” with “Assaulting platoons that survive the DF” in line 1 of paragraph 2.

Once more into the breach.

War Storm Series Rules 2.1 Proofread #5

SECTION 5:

22.1 Improved Positions:

22.1:  Replace “the following” with “a subsequent” in line 3 of paragraph 2.

22.1:  Replace “Starting after” with “Following” in line 5 of paragraph 2.

22.1:  Add “be” between “can” and “protected” in line 3 of paragraph 3.

22.2 Barbed Wire:

22.2:  Add “the” between “by” and “players” in line 1 of paragraph 1.

22.2:  The first paragraph states that for “heavy weapon platoons (except MG) with on foot movement (white MP), barbed wire is considered prohibited terrain.”  However, the second paragraph states that “mortar platoons (including dismounted motorized platoons of these types) may attempt to cross barbed wire.”  Can mortar platoons attempt to cross barbed wire even though they are heavy weapons?

22.2:  Delete the comma in line 3 of paragraph 2.

22.2:  Add “platoon” between “a” and “morale” in line 4 from the top of the right-hand column of page 39.

22.2:  Add “the” between “of” and “counter” in line 5 from the top of the right-hand column on page 39.

22.2:  Replace “to a barbed” with “into a barbed” in line 10 from the top of the right-hand column on page 39.

22.2:  Replace “an effect” with “a result” in line 2 of the second bullet on page 39.

22.2:  Replace “make a morale” with “and make a platoon morale” in line 2 of the third bullet page 39.  This morale check should also be added to the list found under rule 9.2.1.

22.3 Road Blocks:

22.3:  Add “a” between “to” and “woods” in line 3 of paragraph 2.

22.3:  Replace “which” with “and it” in line 8 of paragraph 2.

22.3:  Add “platoon” between “a” and “morale” in the penultimate line of 22.3.  This morale check should also be added to the list found under rule 9.2.1.

22.4 Pontoon Bridges:

22.4:  Replace “on” with “for” in the last line on page 39.

22.4:  Replace “which” with “and” in line 3 from the top of the left-hand column on page 40.

22.5 Trenches:

22.5:  Replace “the” with “to” in the penultimate line of 22.5.

22.5:  Replace “Tracked movement platoons may cross it.” with  “The only vehicles that may enter a trench hex are those with Tracked movement capability (but don’t forget the occupation restrictions cited in the previous paragraph).” in line 3 of paragraph 4.

22.5:  Does it costs 1 MP to EXIT a trench as well as to enter?

22.6 Fortified Positions:

22.6:  Replace “where the LOS of the fortified position starts” with “the covered arc of the fortified position” in line 7 of paragraph 1.

22.6:  Replace “obstacles” with “obstacle” in line 7 of paragraph 1.

22.6:  Replace “have morale 8” with “have a morale of 8” in line 5 of paragraph 2.

22.6:  The sentence following the second paragraph refers to “3 types of fortified positions.”  However, the rule section pertaining to Turret Bunkers is missing.

22.6:  Replace “obstacles” with “obstacle” in line 7 of paragraph 1.

22.6:  Add “the” between “from” and ”fortification” in line 3 of paragraph 1 of the first bullet point.

22.6:  Replace “Infanty” with “Infantry” in the list below paragraph 3 of the first bullet.

22.6:  Add “These platoon types are mutually exclusive.” to the list below paragraph 3 of the first bullet.

22.6:  Replace “motorised” with “motorized” in line 2 of the first paragraph of the second bullet.  In the name of consistency.

22.6:  Add “and mechanized units (mounted and dismounted)” between “motorcycles,” and “cannot” in the last sentence of the first bullet (at the top of the right-hand column on page 40.  Apparently, this phrase was dropped.  It is in the Spanish version of the rules.

22.6:  Replace “mechanized units (mount and dismount),” with “and mechanized units (mounted and dismounted)” in the last line of the second bullet.

22.6:  Replace “fortifications” with “bunkers” in the last line of the second bullet.  The Spanish version of the rules has the word “bunkers” not “fortifications.”

22.6 LOS:

Add “MG” between “A” and “bunker” in line 1.

22.6 Movement cost:

Does the +1 movement cost apply to EXIT of a fortified position as well as to entry?

22.6 Attack a fortified position:

Fwiw, I would rewrite the first line of this paragraph as follows:

“Only AP and ART fire may attack units in a fortified position.  If sharing…”

Also, replace

“from the loopholes or openings, which correspond to the arrow on the marker and their LOS.”

with

“upon from within the covered arc as indicated by the arrow on the marker and as delineated as per the illustrations above.” in line 5/6.

22.6 AP shots:

What is meant by the phrase (found in paragraph 1):

“For AP fire only applies the modifier according to the number of steps inside the fortified position…”

Is this referring to the -1 modifier for 6 (or more) steps in the target hex?  If it is, I have written elsewhere how this modifier would make it HARDER to achieve a hit on the occupying infantry.  Perhaps, the -1 modifier should apply to the required hit number; changing the modified 2D6 roll required from an 8 to a 7?

Fwiw, I would rewrite the first paragraph as follows:

“For AP fire, the only applicable dice roll modifier is the listed modifier for the type of defending unit as per the table below.  If 6 infantry steps are present inside the fortified position, the -1 modifier (for 6 or more infantry steps in one hex) is applied to the “HIT” number (changing it from an 8 to a 7).  The amount of FF applied to the attack is irrelevant.”

“Artillery” is misspelled in the chart at the bottom of page 40.

22.6 AP shots:

Replace “die” with “dice” in line 1 at the top of page 41.

Fwiw, the first paragraph at the top of page 41 could be rewritten as follows:

“The Hit column shows the exact dice roll result required, after applying the applicable modifier from the table, to cause a step loss to a unit inside the fortified position, which is allocated as described in 7.4.  The hit number itself may be modified by -1 (8-1=7) if the fortified position is occupied by 6 infantry steps.”

22.6 Example:

Replace “through the loophole marker” with “from within the bunker’s covered arc” in line 2 of the example in the top left-hand column on page 41.

22.6 Art shots:

I noticed there are calibers missing from the Artillery “Firepower to Hit Fortifications Table” (116mm to 139mm).  For example, what about the Soviet 122mm M-30 Artillery unit?  Has this row of calibers been mistakenly omitted?

Add the row “116mm to 139mm” to the Caliber column and add “4D6” to the Firepower column of the “Firepower to Hit Fortifications Table.”

Replace “165mm” with “166mm” in the last row of the “Firepower to Hit Fortifications Table.”

Replace “fortification” with “fortified position” in line 1 of paragraph 2.

22.6 Assault on a fortified position:

Replace “initiate the assault through the hexes indicated by the arrow on the marker, which represent the fortification loopholes” with “conduct the assault from within the covered arc of the fortified position.” in lines 2/3 of paragraph 1.

The exception given in the first line of paragraph 2 should be moved to the end of paragraph 1.

Replace “the fortification” with “of the fortified position” in line 2 of paragraph 2.

Replace “CC combat table” with “Close Assault Chart” in line 2 of paragraph 3.

22.6 Destruction of the fortified position:

Replace “and bombardment of FF9” with “or air bombardment of 9 FF” in line 2 of paragraph 1.

Add “of” between “outside” and “the” in line 1 of paragraph 3.

Delete “(and therefore none inside),” from line 1 of paragraph 3.

22.6 Example:

Replace “greater than 9” with “9 or greater” in line 5 of the example at the top of the right-hand column on page 41.

Replace “is greater than 105 mm.” with “is 105mm or greater.” in the last line of the example at the top of the right-hand column on page 41.

22.6:  Delete “, or because of artillery attacks that reduce their defense value to 0” from line 2/3 of the paragraph below the example at the top of the right-hand column on page 41.  This phrase is redundant.

22.6 Replace the final sentence:

“If a fortification / bunker collapses as a result of the bombing and contains units inside, these are automatically eliminated.”

with

“If a fortified position is destroyed as a result of ART or air attack and contains units inside, these units are automatically eliminated.” just above rule 22.7.

22.7 Rubble:

Delete “dice” in line 3 of paragraph 1.

Replace “followings” with “following” in line 5 of paragraph 1.

Replace “dice” with “die” in line 2 of paragraph 3.

Add “number of” between “the” and “hits” in line 3 of paragraph 3.

Delete “on” in line 1 of the second bullet following paragraph 4.

Replace “dice” with “die” in line 2 of the third bullet following paragraph 4.

I think the phrase “although the hex’s defensive value is not modified” should be deleted from the third bullet point (since it doesn’t apply to anti-armor assaults anyway) and moved to its own bullet point as:

“* A Rubbled hex retains its defensive value.”

22.7 Example:  Fwiw, the Combat Chart included with Help Arrives! only reaches a maximum FF of 20.

22.7 Example:  Replace “dice” with “die” in the penultimate line of the example at the top of page 42.

22.8 Observation Posts Clarifications:

Add “height of the obstacle in the” between “the” and “hex” in line 2 of paragraph 1.

Add “A Move action is required for a platoon to enter/exit an Observation Post, but there is no movement point cost to do so.  Such a move could trigger Reaction Fire normally.”  to the end of paragraph 1.  Fwiw.

Replace the first sentence of paragraph 3 with:

“Steps occupying an OP count towards the stacking limits (3.3) of the hex.”

Add the following paragraph:

“Direct Fire directed at an Observation Post location only affects the units occupying the OP unless the firer has a LOS to the ground level of the hex in which case the entire hex is affected.  Indirect fire, and direct fire from ART platoons that qualify for on-board indirect (parabolic) fire (11.5.1), directed at an OP location affects all occupants of the hex regardless if the LOS is blocked to ground level.”  Fwiw

23 Risky Action:

23:  Delete the first sentence.  This sentence is reprinted from the introduction to Section 22.  It is not necessary to repeat it here.

23:  Delete “or company” from line 3 of paragraph 1.

23:  Replace “a platoon/company fires” with “fire is directed” in line 2 of the last paragraph.

23:  Replace “dice” with “die” in the last line of rule 23.

[C, Lance]

Maybe fold all these up on a document/pdf so we can download?  Hard to scroll through all of these reeally useful corrections.

[RobertOrf]

I'll have to see what I can do.  I'm not very computer savvy.  I didn't realize it would get so out of control when I started.  I suppose it should be noted that these corrections are not official and are really directed at the design team for their consideration.  While I have tried to consult the forums and the Spanish rules when I had a question, there are times when I used my own judgment.  For example, the suggested rule change regarding rule 22.6 AP shots vs fortified positions, and the addition of the direct and indirect fire effects vs an observation post hex (22.8).

I'm just trying to help.  Cheers.

22.6 AP Shots:

I'm sorry, but I must be missing something.  What is the point of assigning a "to hit" number if it is just going to be automatically modified?  For example, in order for AP fire to get an effective result versus an infantry target inside of a fortification, the 2D6 roll must equal 8.  However, the dice roll is modified by -2 (due to the infantry target), so the original dice roll must be a 10.  So, why not just drop the modifier and change the "to hit" number to a 10?  Likewise, the "to hit" number for a MG target would be changed to an 8 instead of a modified 7.

What am I missing?  Cheers.

War Storm Series Rules 2.1 Proofread #6

SECTION 6:

25.2:  Add “as” between “it” and “described” in the last line of the last paragraph.

25.6:  Replace “ones” with “hex” in line 2 of paragraph 1.

25.6 Example:  Replace “in” with “with” in line 8 from the top of the right-hand column on page 44.
